Senegalese Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Mohamed LO is on a working and friendship visit from 18 to 19 October 2026 in Cote d'Ivoire. This visit will be marked by a working session between the two Prime Ministers and their respective delegations, as well as high-level audiences.
Specifically, a one-on-one meeting with Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan, according to sources at the Ivorian Presidency. The Head of Government is accompanied by the Ministers of Interior, Commerce, and Agriculture, as well as the Minister to the Minister of Economy, Finance and Budget, in charge of Economy, Planning and Cooperation.
Upon arrival, the delegation was welcomed at the Felix-Houphouet-BOIGNY International Airport in Abidjan by his Ivorian counterpart, Robert Beugré MAMBE. Senegal and Cote d'Ivoire, the two largest economies in the UEMOA zone, intend to strengthen their economic ties.
Already in April 2024, during his visit, Head of State Bassirou Diomaye Faye had laid the foundations. For him, it is essential that both countries ally themselves to further strengthen union and unity within the major regional and sub-regional entities that we share.
According to him, Senegal and Cote d'Ivoire can accomplish much in terms of cooperation. "We can still do more, particularly in priority sectors such as agriculture with the development of cooperatives in Cote d'Ivoire, from which we wish to draw significant inspiration, and in other fields such as livestock, defense, security, education, and even energy," said Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
He considers that for both countries, recent mining discoveries represent a historic opportunity for both governments to pool knowledge, efforts, and strategies to derive maximum benefits from these resources. "Together we can exploit many of the potentials that exist in both countries and strengthen this economic and commercial cooperation that we have always maintained but which must, with each administration, see greater growth," he indicated.
The visit of the Senegalese Head of Government to Abidjan takes place in a specific economic and financial context. Senegal obtained a technical agreement with the FMI on September 1st, following two years of waiting.
It is accompanied by a disbursement of two 2,2 billion dollars. At the same time, the country is rolling out its Debt management plan.
Furthermore, within the framework of the G20 Common Framework, negotiations began on October 6 with creditor committees. The total amount concerned currently stands at 18 300 billion FCFA.
