Between January and July 2026, the Republic of the Congo allocated 1 670,7 billion FCFA to the repayment of debt principal and interest payments, out of a total amount of 1 779,6 billion FCFA scheduled for the period. The gap between scheduled and actual payments thus stands at 108,9 billion FCFA.
These data are included in the monthly public debt bulletin published on October 12, 2026 by the Caisse congolaise d'amortissement (CCA). In detail, principal repayments reached 1 495,5 billion FCFA, against 1 585 billion FCFA expected, representing a variance of 89,5 billion FCFA.
Interest paid amounted to 175,2 billion FCFA, against 194,6 billion FCFA programmed, showing a difference of 19,4 billion FCFA. The bulletin does not specify the reasons for these discrepancies between programmed amounts and actual payments.
These figures do not, in themselves, justify concluding that there are payment defaults. They may result from schedule delays or debt restructuring.
The structure of scheduled repayments highlights the weight of commercial creditors in external maturities. For principal, the amounts programmed in their favor reached 602,5 billion FCFA, against 104,7 billion FCFA for bilateral creditors and 16,9 billion FCFA for multilateral creditors.
Debt owed to China also shows significant gaps between expected payments and amounts actually disbursed. Between January and July 2026, the Congo was scheduled to repay this creditor 83,5 billion FCFA in principal and 15,4 billion FCFA in interest.
Payments made were limited to 52,8 billion FCFA and 8,4 billion FCFA respectively, representing a cumulative variance of 37,7 billion FCFA compared to the programmed amounts. These discrepancies occur while the repayment schedule remains heavy for the end of the year.
From August to December 2026, the CCA projects debt service of 787,9 billion FCFA, of which 82,2% relates to domestic debt. Maturities are expected to be concentrated between October and December, increasing the State's cash requirements to repay maturing public securities and settle corresponding interest.
As a reminder, the outstanding public debt of the Republic of the Congo stood at 9 644,3 billion FCFA at the end of July 2026, an increase of 0,9% over one month, according to the CCA. Claude Paul Tjeg Published on 20/10/26 13:09 The Editorial Staff
