Between January and July 2026, the Republic of the Congo allocated 1 670,7 billion FCFA to the repayment of its debt principal and interest payments, out of a total of 1 779,6 billion FCFA scheduled for the period. The variance between scheduled and actual payments thus stands at 108,9 billion FCFA.
These data appear in the monthly public debt bulletin published on October 12, 2026 by the Congolese Amortization Fund (CCA). In detail, principal repayments reached 1 495,5 billion FCFA, against 1 585 billion FCFA expected, representing a variance of 89,5 billion FCFA.
Interest paid amounted to 175,2 billion FCFA, against 194,6 billion FCFA scheduled, revealing a difference of 19,4 billion FCFA. The bulletin does not specify the reasons for these variances between the scheduled amounts and the actual payments made.
These figures alone do not lead to the conclusion of outstanding arrears. They may result from timing discrepancies in the schedule of maturities or debt restructuring.
The structure of the projected repayments highlights the weight of commercial creditors in external maturities. For principal, the amounts scheduled in their favor reached 602,5 billion FCFA, compared to 104,7 billion FCFA for bilateral creditors and 16,9 billion FCFA for multilateral creditors.
Debt owed to China also shows significant variances between expected payments and amounts actually paid. Between January and July 2026, the Congo was scheduled to repay this creditor 83,5 billion FCFA in principal and 15,4 billion FCFA in interest.
Payments made were limited to 52,8 billion FCFA and 8,4 billion FCFA, respectively, representing a cumulative variance of 37,7 billion FCFA relative to the scheduled amounts. These variances occur as the repayment schedule remains heavy for the remainder of the year.
From August to December 2026, the CCA projects a debt service of 787,9 billion FCFA, of which 82,2% is attributed to domestic debt. Maturities are expected to be concentrated between October and December, increasing the State's cash flow requirements to repay maturing public securities and settle the corresponding interest.
As a reminder, the outstanding public debt of the Republic of the Congo stood at 9 644,3 billion FCFA at the end of July 2026, an increase of 0,9% over one month, according to the CCA. Claude Paul Tjeg Published on 20/10/26 13:09 The Editorial Staff
