The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) announces the connection of the UEMOA Public Treasuries to the Interoperable Platform for the Instant Payment System (PI-SPI). To date, the Public Treasury of Côte d'Ivoire is the only one to have 'met all the requirements and standards of PI-SPI' and to 'regularly execute mass payments through the Platform', specifies the issuing institution.
'Treasuries now have a tool that allows them to send and receive payments (salaries, scholarships, subsidies, taxes, etc.) regardless of the beneficiary's or taxpayer's account, and to monitor them in real time', indicates the BCEAO press release. This measure was revealed in parallel with the decision making electronic money transactions between individuals via this same platform mandatory on a regional scale starting 2 November 2026.

By allowing administrations to use a centralized infrastructure to manage their financial flows, the BCEAO accelerates the circulation of public funds and eliminates the burdens of traditional circuits.
The technical tool thus becomes a genuine regional digital public service, designed to be the preferred channel for financial interactions between the State and citizens. Through this modernization, the Central Bank aims to strengthen the transparency and efficiency of budget management within the UEMOA.
From now on, citizens and businesses benefit from direct and secure access to pay their taxes or receive allocations, regardless of their financial institution. While the Ivorian Treasury serves as a pioneer, the BCEAO continues its 'constant assistance' to other member states to ensure their 'progressive integration' and to sustain the modernization of regional financial services.
