The African petroleum product distribution market is seeing a new configuration emerge at the head of Oryx Energies. The group, historically controlled by Swiss businessman Jean-Claude Gandur through his holding company AOG, is being acquired by two of its senior executives, Senegalese national Moussa Diao and French national Hervé Bouvet, as part of a transaction valued at approximately 1 billion dollars, or nearly 587 billion FCFA.
This transaction marks a change in shareholding for a player well-established on the continent. Present in more than 30 African countries, Oryx Energies operates in several segments of the petroleum supply chain, from procurement and trading to fuel distribution, as well as storage, lubricants, and liquefied petroleum gas.
Its network includes more than 410 service stations, and its infrastructure has a storage capacity of approximately 947 000 m³. The group also markets nearly 9,4 million tons of petroleum products annually, according to data published on its activities.

The buyout is led by Moussa Diao, Chief Executive Officer of Oryx Energies since 2019, and Hervé Bouvet, head of trading activities within the group. Their knowledge of African markets and the company's operations constitutes a central element of this management buyout.
Moussa Diao has accumulated more than twenty years of experience within the group, notably including commercial responsibilities in Benin and trading-related functions in Ivory Coast. For his part, Hervé Bouvet has led the trading activity of Addax Energy since January 2019.
Beyond the change of ownership, this operation concerns a group whose activities occupy a position in the hydrocarbon supply chains of several African economies. In West Africa, Oryx Energies is notably present in Ivory Coast, Senegal, Benin, Togo, and Mali.
Retaining executives already familiar with its markets could thus foster operational continuity, even if the strategic direction of the new owners remains to be specified. Fanuelle YAO
