In August 2026, industrial production excluding cotton ginning decreased by 2,2% compared to the same period in 2025. This trend, according to an ANSD document, is essentially due to the decline in the production of extractive (-5,8%) and manufacturing (-4,5%) industries.
However, the production of electricity, gas, and water (+23,7%) and environmental industries (+9,4%) increased over the period. Over the first eight months of 2026, industrial production showed a slight decline of 0,2% compared to the corresponding period of 2025.
Regarding cotton ginning activity, it was characterized by an absence of production in August 2026. However, cumulatively over the first eight months of 2026, cotton ginning activity increased by 20,5%.
Regarding extractive industry production, it fell by 5,8% in August 2026, in connection with the decrease in the extraction activity of other extractive industry products (-28,9%) and metal ores (-3,0%). However, hydrocarbon production (+4,5%) increased over the period under review.
Similarly, production during the first eight months of 2026 decreased by 9,3%, compared to that of the corresponding period of 2025. In August 2026, manufacturing production also fell by 4,5% relative to the same period in 2025.
This decline is mainly attributable to the contraction in the manufacturing of chemical and pharmaceutical products (-32,7%), refined petroleum products and coking (-22,6%), paper and cardboard (-9,2%), as well as the production of mineral materials (-3,6%). The production of metallurgical and foundry product manufacturing industries (+87,1%) and agri-food industries (+3,1%) increased over the period under review.
Cumulatively over the first eight months of 2026, manufacturing industry production increased by 4,7%, compared to that of the corresponding period of 2025. Regarding the production of environmental industries, it grew by 9,4% in August 2026 year-on-year, mainly due to the growth in waste collection, treatment, and disposal activities (+9,5%).
However, cumulatively over the first eight months of 2026, the sector's production fell by 1,5%, compared to the corresponding period of 2025. Published on 13/10/26 09:07.
