The Nigerian-origin fintech OPay officially filed its registration statement on 9 October 2026 with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. market regulator, in preparation for an entry onto the New York Stock Exchange (Wall Street) under the ticker symbol "OPAY".
This process aims to list its shares in the United States and pursue its international expansion. At the same time, a strategic agreement has been reached with Stanbic Africa Holdings, a subsidiary of the South African banking group Standard Bank, to allow it to acquire ordinary shares of the company up to 200 million USD.
To definitively finalize this initial public offering (IPO), the fintech must still overcome several significant requirements. The young company must first obtain final approval from the New York Stock Exchange for its effective listing.
In other words, the securities regulator must provide full clearance for the documentation and establish the final price range for the offered securities.
Furthermore, the finalization of the investment agreement with the Standard Bank group remains directly contingent upon this initial public offering and the validation of financial sector regulatory authorities. Finally, the success of this transaction will depend on the level of demand from global investors at the time of the securities offering launch.

This initiative marks a decisive milestone that is part of a journey started a few years ago. Founded in 2018 by Chinese entrepreneur Yahui Zhou, the financial services platform has experienced extremely rapid growth in Nigeria, a country that accounts for nearly 90% of its global revenue.
Supported from its inception by premier investors such as the Japanese group SoftBank, the company has developed a comprehensive range of mobile payment and money transfer services. It primarily targeted younger populations and individuals without access to traditional banking services.
Building on this local success, the group has gradually expanded into other markets such as Egypt, Indonesia, and Pakistan, to the point of actively preparing this stock market operation which could now value it at approximately 4 billion USD.
