Six African tech startups benefited from a total catalyst funding of 400 000 USD granted by the investment hub FINCA Ventures on 6 October 2026, during a ceremony in San Francisco. This endowment aims to accelerate the social and economic impact of these young companies operating in essential sectors such as Fintech and Agritech across the continent.

The financial honors highlight the distribution of the grants. In the financial inclusion category, VunaPay (Kenya) takes first place with 100 000 USD.

The company Nesti (Kenya) takes second place with 60 000 USD for its housing-linked credit system. ChatCash (Rwanda, Zimbabwe) secures third place with 40 000 USD thanks to its conversational solution on WhatsApp.

In the sustainable agriculture category, Kumbatia Seafood (Kenya) wins the first prize of 100 000 USD for its valorization of artisanal fishing. The eAgro platform (Zimbabwe) takes second place with 60 000 USD for its artificial intelligence tools.

Finally, Pollen Patrollers (Kenya) secures third place with 40 000 USD for its pollination technology. These winners are at the seed or early-stage development phase of their operations, where access to venture capital proves essential for building a solid structure.

These entrepreneurs thus receive direct financial support at the beginning of their journey to strengthen their profile and obtain the credibility necessary for global financial markets. This support will directly fuel working capital and deploy services in the field.

In other words, this assistance will facilitate logistics, digital technology development, geographical expansion, and access for small producers to high-end distribution networks. This early support will thus help these projects multiply their financial returns while generating concrete environmental and human impact.

The selection process was based on a rigorous international competition. For this third edition, more than 700 applications were submitted in two specific categories: fintech for financial inclusion on one hand, and agriculture with sustainable food systems on the other.

A jury of investment, technology, and sustainable development specialists evaluated the candidates. Six finalists, including three companies led or co-led by women, presented their projects in San Francisco before the winners were designated.

Several founders expressed their vision during this event. Koya Matsuno, co-founder of VunaPay, explains: ''There are approximately 54 000 cooperatives in Africa, each grouping between 500 and 10 000 farmers.

This represents millions of smallholder households that we can help''. For his part, Will Gertler, co-founder of Kumbatia Seafood, highlights the direct utility of the endowment: ''The prize will serve to fund the working capital and expansion of our first commercial service, and to extend our action to a dozen additional communities by 2030''.
