Has the Bridge Bank stock acted as the spark that illuminates a BRVM equity market that has been causing some anxiety for investors since the beginning of September? After three consecutive sessions of decline on the BRVM, the trend seems to be reversing.

The listing of Bridge Bank Group Côte d'Ivoire this September 24 is indeed bringing some life to the regional market, with a stock that immediately took the lead in gains just minutes after trading opened.

At the BRVM headquarters in Abidjan, this first listing was marked by a well-established ritual. The traditional stock exchange bell rang alongside a drum, symbolizing the official entry of Bridge Bank Group Côte d'Ivoire into the market.

The bank thus becomes the 48th listed company on the regional stock exchange.

Minutes after trading opened, the BBGC stock was trading at 7,255 FCFA, compared to an introductory price of 6,750 FCFA, representing an increase of 7.48%. At this stage of the session, 10,904 shares had already changed hands for an amount of 79.1 million FCFA, while buy orders reached nearly 1.2 billion FCFA.

The move placed Bridge Bank at the top of the market's gainers, in a start of the session marked by a resurgence of activity.

This reaction comes after an IPO that had already generated strong mobilization. From July 20 to 21, Bridge Bank offered 10 million shares, representing 20% of its capital, at a price of 6,750 FCFA per share, for a total amount of 67.5 billion FCFA.

The operation was 142% subscribed, with demand close to 95.9 billion FCFA and nearly 17,500 investors mobilized.

For Myriam Ouattara, General Manager of Bridge Securities, these figures mainly reflect the regional market's capacity to mobilize savings around growing companies. 'These figures show that domestic savings can be mobilized significantly to finance our companies' ambitions,' she emphasized during the ceremony.

Individual participation notably caught attention. They represented 55 billion FCFA in subscriptions and obtained 58% of the offered shares.

Moreover, more than 84% of subscribers had invested 2.5 million FCFA or less, giving the operation a particularly broad dimension among regional savings.

The first listing thus extends this operation on the secondary market. After subscribing during the primary operation, investors can now trade the stock on the Stock Exchange, while those who did not obtain shares during the introduction can also position themselves on the stock when a sell offer is available.

For the BRVM CEO, Dr. Edoh Kossi Amenounve, the challenge now is also to keep this new value alive beyond its introduction.

Its CEO recalled in this regard that 'an IPO is not the end of the story,' as listed companies can continue to solicit the market to finance their development.
