TikTok marks a notable evolution in social media commerce. Announced on 5 October 2026 at Advertising Week in New York, two major innovations are appearing on the application to transform the way users discover and purchase products directly from their screens.
On one hand, the social network is introducing a virtual shopping assistant powered by artificial intelligence. This conversational agent acts as a personalized advisor capable of instantly answering customer questions regarding product specifications, available sizes, inventory, or delivery terms.
Furthermore, it retains preferences expressed during the exchange to make the search process more fluid and precise. On the other hand, TikTok is launching the "Buy Direct" feature, an integrated one-click payment option.
Through this mechanism, a user can immediately order an item spotted in their "For You" feed without having to open an external site or switch applications. The entire transaction is completed within a single conversation, which significantly streamlines the purchasing journey.

The strategic objective is to offer a comprehensive experience in order to retain the audience within its environment for as long as possible, thereby avoiding the need for external chatbots to obtain commercially useful information. Moreover, this initiative is part of a global movement where other Internet giants are also testing artificial intelligence-assisted commerce.
With over a billion active users worldwide, TikTok now aims to fully monetize the influence it exerts over daily consumer decisions. While these tools are initially being deployed in the United States, their gradual generalization could well alter global e-commerce habits.
