Togo announces this 1st of October the realization of a strategic partnership in the space sector with Kyrgyzstan to boost their respective economies. According to the Togolese Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation, this initiative occurs on the sidelines of the launch, on the same day from California, of the first Kyrgyz satellite.
It is based on the concrete exploitation of Earth observation data to address priority development issues.
Indeed, the acquisition and processing of this orbital information are primarily aimed at modernizing local agricultural practices to increase productivity. Furthermore, the collected images will serve to guide the search for strategic minerals as well as to stimulate projects related to renewable energies.
To ensure effective implementation within Togolese territory, Kyrgyzstan will transmit its satellite images, share its technical know-how, and ensure the training of local personnel. Moreover, this initial phase foreshadows a broader ambition, including the prospect of jointly deploying new spacecraft in the future.
Commenting on the scope of this alliance, Cina Lawson, Minister of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation, stated that the value of space technology lies in what it can provide to the Togolese population and its economy. "Helping our farmers produce more, improving our understanding and management of our natural resources, and supporting the development of clean energy."
These are the specific objectives of this cooperation, the minister indicated, adding that this "partnership with Kyrgyzstan also shows how countries from different regions can share technologies, strengthen their capabilities together, and leverage innovation to open new avenues for development."
